Nothing quite says college football like tailgating, rivalry week and the Nissan Heisman House campaign. In its 9th year, Nissan challenged us to make their cars central to every single commercial. Which is no easy task since the guys are, you know, in a house most of the time. But we managed to do it by breaking down some metaphorical doors (and in one instance a literal one). Since this year’s campaign featured more dialogue driven comedy and more ensemble casts than ever before, we enlisted the help of the Russo brothers to get the best performances out of our athletes.

Farmers was having a problem with a large number of in-market customers skipping over their YouTube Pre-roll Ads. So we gave them an even more satisfying option. We created these interactive pre-rolls initially as an experiment. Completion rate went up 68%. Not too shabby.

When it comes to insurance claims, truth can be even more interesting than fiction. So to bring the “We Know From Experience” campaign evolution to life, we went straight to the source; real insurance claims from real Farmers agents. Farmers knows a thing or two, because they’ve seen a thing or two. Starring Oscar winning actor J.K. Simmons as Professor Burke.

Insurance policies are hard, complicated and they hurt my head. And chances are, your insurance company is covering you for way less than you think because they know you’re not reading the terms and conditions, BECAUSE WHO DOES THAT? And the things they don’t cover are what we call GAPS.

Apartments.com added a new feature to their site so renters could review their past residences. The problem was, no one used it. They wanted to incentivize new reviews so they asked us for a solution. We sold them on the idea of paying people’s rent. We created a contest that encouraged renters to flood Apartments.com with reviews of their past residences, then selected the most creative reviews as winners. One won rent for life, while twelve others lived rent free for three months. We worked with our media team to find opportunities where we could reach those who already loved writing reviews (Yelp, Tripadvisor, etc.). Needless to say, their site is full of reviews now.
Fun Fact: Our Rentless Future spot was so convincing that conspiracy theorists launched campaigns out against it.

48-hours before a TV shoot, the CEO of Apartments.com casually let us know he bought Westside Rentals in order to take control of the rental market in Southern California. And he wanted everyone to know about it! So my partner and I scrambled to take advantage of the upcoming shoot. We repurposed cheesy Westside Rentals spots and re-dubbed them with Brad Bellflower (aka Jeff Goldblum).

INTERACTIVE 360 VIDEO
We worked with our strategy and media team to find a tentpole opportunity that could fill a void in our October media buy. So, for the two weeks between Friday the 13th and Halloween of 2017, Farmers Insurance released the “Stranger Claims” - real insurance claims Farmers covered, but could never explain. Presented as an interactive 360º pre-roll ad (a first of it’s kind at the time), viewers could uncover five creepy, paranormal stories. Each narrated by Oscar winning actor J.K. Simmons as Professor Burke.
To work within our budget, we sourced stock video and sound effects that could be altered and pieced together to create the final films. Easier said than done.
